The Lewis Public Library is a modern facility with a multitude of fiction and nonfiction books and other reading materials available to all people of reading age. It also has for public use, six public computers, a fax machine, copier. Free Wify is also offered. There is a selection of movies offered in DVD format. There is a selection of children movies offered in VHS and DVD format.
Currently the library has available for viewing a number of pictures from the Lewis 2004 Sesquicentennial parade and cemetery walk along with videos of the parade and stage play. And for the history enthusiast, the library has on hand: The "Lewis Standard Newspaper" dated 1899 through 1933 on micro film, laminated issues of the "Lewis Independent newspapers" dated 1881-1882 and Lewis High School Class Memory books from the years 1954, 55 & 56. Other local history books include a plat of the Oakwood Cemetery, A history of Cass County and the Cass County Atlas.
The library also conducts a number of public programs including the Summer Reading Programs for Kids, Adult Program Book Reviews and a program called EBSCO. EBSCO is a database whereby a reader can find absolutely anything he or she might wish to read: Magazine articles, newspapers articles, automotive, medical, etc. This program is through the State Library. It also gives our local library access to the Des Moines Register and other main line newspapers. The Lewis Library provides some book deliveries to shut-ins as part of its service to the Lewis Community.
